Juanita Fern Taylor, Age 99, of Cookville TX., passed away on May 18, 2022 in Mt. Pleasant TX. Graveside funeral services will be held on Monday, May 23, 2022 at 2:00 P.M. at the Grove Hill Cemetery in Dallas TX, with Bryan Taylor Mathis II officiating.

Juanita was born on May 18, 1923 in Bristow Oklahoma, to Herbert “Bud” Taylor and Ladora “Bessie” Ballard Taylor, she was employed by The Reserve Life Insurance Company of Dallas Texas and retired from there on July 1, 1985.

Juanita Fern Taylor throughout her life was a very much loved daughter, sister, aunt and friend. She was known by her nieces and nephews as “Aunt Fernie.” Aunt Fernie never married, but was like a second mother to all of us. She spent most of her time helping take care of her family. The family came from the Chelsea, Oklahoma area and were federally registered Cherokees. They lived in Maud, Oklahoma for a short period before finally settling in Dallas, Texas. The whole family moved and stayed together. They all had a unity and closeness which is a part of Cherokee culture. Throughout her life she always had a very sweet disposition and spoke kind words. She will be greatly missed. She is survived by her sister Martha Mathis, niece Virgina Hayes Kitchens & husband Leon, niece Dorthy Hayes Scott, nephew Donald Holland, nephew Delbert Holland & wife Ramona, nephew Larry Holland & wife Katy, nephew Joe Johnston Jr. & wife Barbara, nephew Ronald Johnston & wife Pat, nephew Anthony Johnston, nephew Billy Mathis, nephew James Stephen Mathis & wife Laura, nephew Bryan Taylor Mathis & wife Donna, and many great nieces and nephews, as well as great, great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert “Bud” Taylor and Bessie Ladora Ballard Taylor, brother “Little” Richard Taylor, sister Gladys Holland & husband Lymon, sister Pearl Hayes & husband David, sister Marie Johnston & husband Joe Lee Sr., brother Herbert Wayne Taylor, brother in law James Edward Mathis, niece Jimmie Lou Mathis Phillips, niece in law Nancy Holland, nephew Leroy Hayes, nephew Robert Hayes, nephew in law Ray Scott, great niece Lara Holland
