Funeral Service for Caroll Ann (Benz) Bretches-Smith, age 86, of Mount Pleasant, Texas will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday, August 4, 2026 at Curry-Welborn Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Tommy Oglesby and Norman Benz officiating. Interment will follow at Masonic Cemetery with Chad Marshall, Tyler Hesker, Zac Bretches, Juan Ramirez, Ryder Marshall, Lukas Marshall, and Daniel Hesker serving as pallbearers and Colten Cutler, Justin McCombs, Nathan Greenhalge, and R.J. Greenhalge serving as honorary pallbearers. Visitation will be held at 1:30 P.M. on Tuesday, August 4, 2026 at Curry-Welborn Funeral Home. Mrs. Smith passed away at the hospital surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, August 1, 2026.

Caroll Bretches Smith was born on January 12, 1940 in Centerville, Iowa to Ray Charles Benz and Violet Valencia (Matherly) Benz. She married the love of her life, Jack Allen Bretches, in Independence, Kansas on May 31, 1959. Caroll was a stay at home mother and wife.

Caroll was sugar, and a whole lot of spice, to know her was to love her.

She is survived by her children; Suzanne Prescott and husband, Jeff Prescott, Jack Bretches Jr. and wife, Marsha Bretches, Guy Bretches and wife, Linda Bretches, Diane Hoffman and husband, Philip Hoffman. She is also survived by her grandchildren; Candice Marshall and husband, Chad Marshall, Mandy Hesker and husband, Tyler Hesker, Ellianna McCombs and husband, Justin McCombs, R.J. Greenhalge and wife, Nichole Greenhalge, Nathan Greenhalge and wife, Amee Greenhalge, Zac Bretches and wife, Kaya Bretches, Zoe Ramirez and husband, Juan Ramirez, and Colten Cutler and wife, Sharon Cutler. Her great-grandchildren; Ryder Marshall, Paislee Marshall, Lukas Marshall, Claire and Daniel Hesker, Tobias Greenhalge, Malachi Greenhalge, Leah Greenhalge, Violet Ramirez, and Heath Cutler. Her brothers, Larry Benz and wife, Mary Benz, Norman Benz and wife, Judy Benz, as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her loving husbands; Jack Bretches and Gorden (Pete) Smith, her parents; Ray Charles Benz and Violet Matherly Benz.
