David R. Blaschke

February 20, 1935 — June 3, 2025

Mount Pleasant, Texas

David Robert Blaschke was called home to be with his Savior, Jesus Christ on June 3, 2025. David has been released from the ravages of his cancer and is now free to walk hand in hand with his Lord.

David was born in Victoria, TX on February 20,1935 to Betty (Kramer) and George Lowery. George passed away when David was very young so he was raised by his mother and eventually Charlie Blaschke, David’s mother’s new husband.

David attended Regan high school in Houston, Texas and became a glass blower for Houston Glass Fabricating and Glenco. Through his church and the Walther League youth group, he met and later married Charlotte Marie Timm on December 28, 1958. He and Charlotte had 3 children: son, Mark Blaschke and twin daughters, Jana Craus and Carol Weaver

David began his college studies at the University of Houston in 1959, just before his children were born. He spent 10 years working while attending night school, obtaining his Bachelor’s degree with honors in Electrical Engineering. In 1973, he earned his Master’s in Business from UTPB.

During his tenure at U of H, David became a staunch Cougar sports supporter, actively following Coog’s basketball his entire life especially during March Madness! David was especially proud that he and Charlotte attended the Game of the Century to see his Coogs defeat UCLA! But also suffered through the agony of defeat when the Phi Slama Jama “dream team” fell to Jim Valvano’s NC Tar Heels. He was hopeful to see the Coogs pull out a National Championship and we’re sure he’ll be watching from the Glory seats in his Heavenly home.

In recent years, David added women’s basketball to his activities but only to watch Caitlin Clark! He loved discussing her college and professional progress with any and all who would listen.

David was just as passionate about his ham radio hobby, building his first ham radio kit at age 11. He earned many related awards including multiple National Sweepstakes competitions and for contacting the most countries! An extra special award was a plaque from NASA presented in appreciation of David retrieving one of their lost satellites. David, who operated under the call sign W5WZQ and later W5UN, was the topic of several articles printed in the popular Ham Radio magazine, QSL.

Since moving to Mt Pleasant in 2001, David has been an active member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. He loved his church family and loved being a part of building their new sanctuary and installing their new pipe organ. He was blessed with a beautiful singing voice, talent for leading Bible Study and serving as an Elder for many years. He felt a strong desire to spread Jesus’ love and could often be found at the local Whataburger listening to and sharing stories of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

David is preceded in death by his loving wife of 58 years, Charlotte. His mother and father as well as his sister, Anita (Blaschke) Bradley. He is survived by his children, Mark and Barbara Blaschke, Jana and Bert Craus and Carol and David Weaver. His grandchildren, Michael Weaver, Chris Weaver; Megan (Blaschke) and Curtis Jeffers, Sarah (Blaschke) and Denis Zhuravkous, Matthew Blaschke and Hannah Blaschke; Samantha (Craus) and Brady Lindsly, Trey Craus and Callie Craus. Survivors also include his great-grandchildren Camden Weaver, Eleanor Zhuravkous, Benjamin Zhuravkous, and Lyla Lindsly.
