It is with great sadness that the family of Dr. James Vernon Holland announces his passing on December 20, 2025, Mount Pleasant, Texas, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's.
James was born January 10, 1942, to John Wesley and Doris Faye Holland. James is the second of three siblings. He married the love of his life, Carolyn Gene, August 26, 1966. The two met on a blind date and were married six months later.
He is survived by his wife: Carolyn Gene, his son: Loren Holland and Heather, his daughter: Amy Waldie and Mike, his grandchildren: Chaison Holland, Creighton Holland, Bodie Waldie, and Brooks Waldie, his great-grandchildren: Chaislie and Addison. He will be remembered by numerous nieces, cousins, and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents: John Wesley and Doris Faye Holland.
Some of James' greatest joys included working as a minister in Virginia, Washington, and Texas for forty years. He also served as a missionary to Africa and Mexico. He loved fishing, hunting, attending grandsons' sporting events, and completing his published book.
He was a member of First Baptist Church, Mount Pleasant.
A celebration of life for James will be Sunday, January 4, 2026, 3:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church, Mount Pleasant, Texas. Visitation will be an hour prior, 2 p.m. at the same location. Interment will follow at Union Hill Cemetery, Mount Pleasant, Texas, with military honors.
Chambers Hospice Staff, thank you for your love, knowledge, compassion and kindness shown to James during his last days of life. The family will always remember your encouraging words. Hospice workers are truly angels who work among us.
Caregivers: Sherry Ann Brewer, Alley Hulsey, Calendra Price, LaNay Rhymes, Resheia White, and Cassee Wilcox. It is people like you that make me believe in kindness paid forward. Thank you for all you did to care and comfort James.
