Mt. Pleasant, Texas

John "Larry" Zimmerman of Mount Pleasant, TX passed away at his home on Sunday June 25, 2023, surrounded with the love of family. He was born on May 18, 1941, in rural Olathe, KS, to Harry Owen Zimmerman and Harriet Alverda Moore.

He grew up on the Zimmerman Brother's dairy farm along with an older brother and sister and ten cousins. He graduated from Olathe High School in 1959 and attended Kansas State University where he met his future wife, Esther Marie Nord. In 1962, he joined the Navy and after he completed his naval service and she finished her nursing program, they were married at the Danforth Chapel on the Kansas State University campus on July 3, 1965.

In 1966 he began his 38 - year career as a technical representative for the Xerox Corporation in the Kansas City area. They resided in a rural home between Olathe and Paola, Kansas with their three daughters. The family attended Redeemer Lutheran Church in Olathe where he was actively involved in Youth Ministry and he was a loved mentor and counselor for youth gatherings, including summer trips to Lutheran Valley Ranch in Colorado, and National Youth gatherings. He also facilitated the yearly youth sponsored Easter breakfasts for the church.

In 2000, he and his wife also became involved with Pathway to Hope, a non-profit 501 (c) (3) organization in Olathe after a family member was diagnosed with mental illness and they recognized, personally, how important it was to have help navigating the complexities of mental illness. Larry and his wife also were active in supporting Blake House, a residence provided by PTH for those living with mental illnesses.

Larry enjoyed gardening and maintaining his 2-acre yard and living with the dogs and cats they rescued over the years. He loved to read and enjoyed fishing trips with his Xerox buddies. He and Esther loved to travel mostly by automobile and often took I-35 to Texas to visit their daughters and families. In 2019 they moved to Mount Pleasant, TX to be near where their daughters had relocated. They joined Good Shepherd Lutheran Church of Mount Pleasant.

Larry is survived by his wife of 58 years and daughters Marcie Lynn Zimmerman (Krum,TX ), Christie Louise Zimmerman Lynch and husband Randal (Mount Pleasant, TX), and Jenny Marie Zimmerman (Mount Pleasant, TX).
