Kathryn Browning

Kathryn S. Browning, age 93, of Mt. Pleasant, Texas, passed away peacefully on the morning of Saturday, September 1, 2018, in her home after suffering several years with Alzheimer’s. She was with her son, John and daughter-in- law, Kathy.

Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, September 8, 2018, at 10:00 A.M. at the Curry-Welborn Funeral Home with Dr. Clint Davis Officiating, Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Mt. Pleasant, under the direction of Curry-Welborn Funeral Home. Visitation will be held on Friday, September 7, 2018, from 6:00-8:00 P.M.

Mary Kathryn was born in a log cabin in De Kalb, Texas on September 5, 1924, to Myrtie Elliott and Calvin Shaver.

She was a graduate of De Kalb High School, Class of 1941. She attended East Texas State Teachers College. She was married on June 22, 1946, to Winston Browning.

She was a member of First Baptist Church, Mt. Pleasant, Texas, since 1947. She taught Sunday School and was very active in various organizations in the church.

Kathryn was a homemaker and a very talented seamstress. She enjoyed gardening, especially her roses.

She is survived by, one son and daughter-in-law, John W. and Kathy Reese Browning, of Mt. Pleasant. Two grand-daughters, Stevie N. Browning, of Pocatello, Idaho, and Heather E. Browning, of Fort Collins, Colorado. Two sisters, Patsy Westbrook of Mesquite, Texas, and Frances Mikow of Littleton, Colorad, one brother, Merrill Harkey of Idabel Oklahoma, Numerous nieces and nephews, and many great friends.

Preceding her in death was her husband, Winston Browning, her parents, Myrtie Elliott and Calvin Shaver, five brothers, John Britt Shaver, Homer Shaver, W. C. Shaver, Bob Shaver, and George Shaver.
