Matt Roy Mathis Landers, of Mt. Pleasant, Texas, passed away on March 23, 2026, at the age of 64.
Matt was born on August 10, 1961, in Mt. Pleasant, Texas to Pat and Marie Landers. He grew up and graduated from high school in Mt. Pleasant. He served 8 years in the United States Army (four years in Germany). He worked operating large machinery and welding after his Army service.
Matt enjoyed fishing, camping, and rodeos. He participated in bare back & saddle bronc riding, beginning at age 15. Family camping trips at Lake Wright Patman was a yearly tradition. In his later years he spent many mornings drinking coffee with his good friends Danny and Lana.
He was a faithful member of New Beginning Baptist Church. He enjoyed attending every Sunday and Wednesday as long as he was able. He had a heart for the elderly and brought joy to many widows and shut ins.
Matt is survived by his son, Roy Mathis Landers, Jr., his sister, Patti and husband, Steve Mayfield, his sister, Sheila Landers, and two granddaughters. Surviving in-laws include Mandy Landers & daughter, Kayleigh as well as numerous friends, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Matt was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Karen Fields, his parents, Pat Landers, Marie Smith & husband, Calvin Smith, and his brother, Jim Landers.
