Sarah Louise Mayes, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and faithful servant of God entered into her heavenly home on Sunday, April 5, 2026, at the age of 84.
Born on April 15, 1941, in Paducah, Kentucky, she lived a life rooted in love, kindness and unwavering faith. She was a woman who found great joy in caring for her family and serving others.
She was known by all those who knew her for her joy for life and generous spirit.
Sarah was the epitome of pure and undefiled religion; to visit orphans and widows and their trouble and to keep oneself unspotted from the world.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Marjorie Distler. She is survived by her three siblings; her brother, Bill Distler and wife, Lee-Anne, her sister, Betty Rubin and husband, David, and her sister, Pam McNutt.
She married Max Mayes, the love of her life, on August 27, 1961, in Pryorsburg, KY. They were faithful and loving partners for the past 64 years.
She will be lovingly remembered by her three children; Greg Mayes and his wife, Kristen, Lisa Fenley and her husband, Keith, and Shawn Mayes and his wife, Arlene.
She is also survived by her 9 grandchildren; Kaela Mayes, Taylor Mayes and his wife, Brene’, Jordan Mayes and his wife, Kylie, Austin Fenley and his wife, Katelynn, Katie McQuaid, Mitchell Mayes, Riley Mayes, Kelcy Mayes, and Meredith Mayes.
Missing her always will be her 9 great-grandchildren; Renleigh Richie, Kanaan Johnson, Sterling Mayes, Ellie Mae Fenley, Wesley Mayes, Clementine Fenley, Maren Mayes, Audrey Mayes, and Blaire Mayes, along with many nieces and nephews. Her family brought her immense joy and remained central to her life.
A celebration of her life will be held at Northridge Church of Christ in Mount Pleasant, TX on Saturday, April 18 at 2:00 P.M.

Guests are welcome to dress casually and, if they wish, wear bright, cheerful, colors in memory of her joyful life and attitude.
