Sis. Susie Mae Hooks, age 85, of Mount Pleasant passed away Thursday October 4, 2012 at her residence. Services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Tuesday October 9, 2012 at the Sheppard Street Church of Christ with Bro. Skippy Norman officiating. Interment will follow at North Chapel Cemetery with Corinthis Moore, Jr., Tony Hooks, Carlos Black, Martez Hooks, Mark Howard Hooks and Kenneth Hooks serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Kristopher Watson, Tedderian Minter, Lloyd Buford, Jaquacy Minter, Kaderrion Milton and Dexter Hooks.. Services are under the direction of Curry-Welborn Funeral Home.
Sis. Susie Hooks was born July 6, 1927 in Pittsburg, the daughter of Elijah and Willie Mae (Armour) Moore. She was a member of the Sheppard Street Church of Christ. She was a homemaker.
Sis. Hooks was united in holy matrimony to Herman Hooks on June 4, 1943. To this union, six children were born, Willie Herman, Arthur E., Ruby Jewel, Ruby Faye, Doris Jean and Harold Ray Hooks.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman Hooks; parents; grandchildren, Victor Hooks, Vickie Minter Turner, Reginald Stafford Minter, Clifford Earl Ivory and Veronica Gray; a sister, Allie Mae Rivers; a brother, Corinthis Moore; brothers-in-law, Willie Rivers, Robert Jackson and Frank Johnson; sons-in-law, Leonard Gray and Simpson Minter.
She is survived by three daughters, Ruby Jewel Minter of Mount Pleasant, Doris Jean Gray of Fort Worth and Ruby Faye Bell and husband Chester of Tyler; three sons and daughters-in-law, Willie Herman and Mary Hooks of Lone Star, Arthur E. and Carrzella Hooks of Mt. Pleasant and Harold Ray and Mary E. Hooks of Longview; sisters and brother-in-law, Helen Jackson of Dallas, Minnie Johnson of Tyler and Earnestine and Charles Williams of Tyler; sister-in-law, Flora Moore of Mount Pleasant; special niece/caretaker, Noble Buford of Naples; special granddaughters/caretakers, Judy Hooks of Mount Pleasant and Latika Ivory of Tyler; 43 grandchildren; 46 great grandchildren and 32 great-great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
