Ty Kirkland

Ty Kirkland received his mansion, robe, and crown on Friday, June 16, 2023 at 8pm at Dallas Methodist Hospital following a lengthy illness. Ty is survived by his wife, Dee Anne Kirkland and son, Tristan of Mt. Pleasant, Tx; his mother, Linda Kirkland of Mt. Pleasant, Tx; sister, Tonja King of Humble, Tx; nephews, Tayte Doddy of Houston, Tx; and Trent Doddy of Humble, Tx.

Ty is preceded in death by his father, James Kirkland, grandfather George A Phillips (Soggie), Grandma Doris, his Pawpaw Kirk and Grandma Fawnie Kirkland, his Granny T, Maude Taylor, father-in-law Ben Renner, and dear friend and matchmaker Starlyn Black.

He completed high school at Mt. Pleasant High School in Mt. Pleasant, Tx. He was active in the choir and represented Mt. Pleasant High School in All-State Choir his senior year. He received a full ride musical scholarship from Stephen F. Austin but chose to study at Tyler Junior College. 

Ty completed culinary classes at Northeast Texas Community College in Mt. Pleasant. He continued studies at the Culinary Institute of America in Houston. He worked as an executive chef in multiple locations. He put his culinary skills to work by regularly preparing meals for his church family. He also prepared meals for the Summer Food Program for Titus County Cares with the North Ridge Church of Christ.

Ty was baptized into Christ and a lifelong member of the North Ridge Church of Christ in Mt. Pleasant, Tx. He had a beautiful singing voice and lead singing at church. He was also a member of Praise and Harmony teams.

Ty had a passion for music, singing, and playing guitar. He was a gifted self-taught guitar player. He was part of the band Boondock Deacons.

Ty was employed by Pilgrims as a Food Safety and Quality Assurance Supervisor for several years.

Ty was a proud, loving father to his baby boy, Tristan. Tristan was his Bug-Bug. They wrestled, played, laughed, studied, and prayed together.

Ty was our Sunshine and now the torch is passed to his son, Tristan.
