I wish you had known her like I did. She had jokes, was full of laughter and was a social butterfly.
She was brave-a single Mother in the 1950s-worked and put herself through night school. She was also beautiful. I used to be fascinated by people’s reaction when she walked by. Men and women would stop and watch her even with children in tow!
She hosted great parties that always overflowed the house. Unfortunately you only knew the woman that was beaten down by life. She buried Daddy, Edgar Jones, lost everything to a slick talker then found love again with Daryl Eberly, who became my friend and partner in ‘crime’, only to have to bury him.
Darn how I miss our early morning calls where we discussed news of the world, kids and whatever advice I asked for and some I didn’t but, it was always honest and never mean spirited, at least to me!
One of the best lessons she gave me was “every day you choose your attitude, choose
to be nice. It’s easier than being mean”.
One more, “Tact is the art of making someone feel at home when that’s where you wish they were!”
I miss her even when she made me crazy.
